Preparation

We recommend that you and your family are prepared in the event of a disaster. It is essential to have an emergency supply kit on hand for the first 72 hours following an event. For more specific information on emergency preparedness, please  visit 3days3ways.org and the RED CROSS

Mitigation

Hazard Mitigation Planning is done in partnership with Pierce County Department of Emergency Management. We are presently in the development process of this Federal Program. For information on this process, please visit HERE

Tacoma-Pierce County homeowners and business owners can now report flood damages at 1-866-798-6363.

Callers should have the following information available:

  1. Name and address of affected property

  2. Type of Insurance (homeowners)

  3. A description of damage, even if uninsured

  4. A personal estimate of uninsured losses

  5. Estimates of the fair market value of the damaged home or business


It is not necessary for property owners to have a contractors estimate.

Immediate steps that individuals and families impacted by the floods should take, include:

  1. Contact the Mount Rainier Chapter of the American Red Cross (253-474-0400) if you are in need of housing, food, etc.

  2. Call your insurance agent to check on your coverage

  3. Keep detailed records of all clean-up and repair costs, including photographs

  4. When the time comes to make repairs, be aware of local permit requirements

  5. Do a thorough check of potential contractors
