Pierce County Fire District 18 Special Meeting

The Board of Commissioners of Pierce County Fire District 18 will hold a special meeting on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. at Station 41 located at 11206 State Route 162 East, Puyallup WA 98374.  The purpose of the meeting will be to discuss capital facilities planning.

On January 1, former East Pierce Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Zane Gibson became the new Orting Valley Fire & Rescue fire chief, replacing interim chief Paul Webb.

Gibson, 46, has strong ties to both the area and the fire service. Born and raised in Lake Tapps, he is the son of former Lake Tapps Fire Department Chief Theron Gibson.

2013 Special Levy Facts

Orting Valley Fire & Rescue will have a special levy on the April 23rd ballot. This levy will help the District maintain service that has seen a reduction in funding because of the economic downturn and resulting loss in assessed property value. Property values have dropped over 31% since 2009 which translates into a sharp drop in funding for the fire department. The District strives to provide the same level of service through the use of cash-on-hand and budget reductions, but the "Rainy Day" fund is running short.
